In the Communicative Language Teaching Approach, we want students to learn and use language that is meaningful and purposeful, because humans use language as a means to make something happen. We do this through Speech Acts (also called Language Functions): agreeing, apologizing, requesting, suggesting, etc.

This live lecture will look at examples of language functions, ways to introduce them in a meaningful context, ways to draw students' attention to the different language we can use to express these speech acts, and also some practice activities. This lecture will also help ITA students to develop ideas for their Chapter 8 lesson plan!
